Patient Voices: Listening to Your Body is Part of Managing HCM

Living With HCM: Megan was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, or HCM, at birth. Early on, she learned to manage the condition by listening to her body and knowing when to rest. It was hard in grade school because people around her couldn’t see anything wrong.

When she got older, she learned about treatment options –  medications, procedures, surgeries – that can help people with HCM feel better. “You’re not just going to have to be in a bubble and not do anything,” she says.
