Editor's Note: The CardioSmart Heart Disease Risk Calculator currently uses the Pooled Cohort Equations (PCE), an evidence-based tool that has supported cardiovascular risk discussions since 2014. While newer guidelines recommend the PREVENT™ equations, which incorporate additional and more contemporary risk factors, the PCE remains clinically relevant and practical. It relies on information that many patients readily have and continues to be widely used across clinical tools, care pathways, and shared decision‑making conversations.
CardioSmart plans to update this calculator to incorporate the use the PREVENT™ equations in the future. Until then, this calculator remains available to support informed discussions between patients and clinicians. Results are intended to inform, not replace, clinician‑patient conversations about cardiovascular risk.
