Signs and Symptoms

People with COVID-19 have reported a wide range of symptoms. For example:

  • Cough
  • Fever or chills
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffed up nose
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle pain or body aches
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea

Symptoms usually appear within 2-14 days of being exposed to the virus. Some newer variants or strains of the virus have been spreading more quickly, and symptoms often vary based on the strain that is currently spreading.

Many people with COVID-19 don’t experience any symptoms and may not know they are infected. As a result, they can unknowingly pass it on to others who may be more prone to severe illness or heart issues.
