Patient Voices: Learning About Treatments

Living With FH: Salima is living with very high LDL cholesterol, known as the “bad” cholesterol. Her LDL cholesterol has been over 400 mg/dL at times. This is due to a genetic condition called familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) that allows LDL cholesterol to build up in the body.

Lifestyle changes and statins often aren’t enough to lower cholesterol to a healthy number in people with HoFH, a severe type of FH. LDL apheresis, a procedure that removes LDL cholesterol from the blood, may also be used.

Salima talks about the power of advocating for yourself and finding a team and treatment plan that work for you.
