CardioSmart has compiled a list of frequently asked questions about CardioSmart Communities, broken down by topic:


Registration

  • How do I register for the community?

    To register click “Register Now” on the top right of the community page. You will need to create a username and password; provide your first name, last name and email address; and provide your physical address to register.
  • Why do you need my physical address?

    CardioSmart’s main website will re-launch in March 2013 with new features that allow users to participate in healthy challenges to earn points that can be spent in our store. All items will be sent to the address we have on file, therefore we ask that you provide a physical address now for future fulfillment. 

Profiles/Settings

  • What is a profile?

    Your profile on the CardioSmart Community is the place for you to share a little bit more about yourself with the other community participants, like your location, your gender, your age, a picture and a short bio. From here, you can see your recent activity and the recent activity of your friends, which you can comment on. You also can update your status.
  • How do I edit my profile?

  • Your CardioSmart Community profile is editable by you. To edit your community profile from the Community homepage, click on “Profile.” You will be allowed to upload a photo, enter a bio or change your birthday or location.
     
  • What settings can I change? How do I change them?

  • You can control whether or not you receive email alerts when a post is added to a discussion you're watching, when one of your submissions is approved, when someone writes a comment on your feed, or when someone connects to you as a friend. You also can add a signature, which will appear on your forum postings. In addition, you can also tell us who is allowed to view your public messages.

  • How do I change the email associated with my profile?

  • To change the email associated with your account, contact us by email.

  • How do I see other community participants' profiles?

  • Community participants' names are a hyperlink. Click on the name to see his or her full profile. From the full profile you can request their friendship, see their recent activity and learn more about them. You also can see a mini-profile by hovering your mouse over their picture.
     
  • What is a status update?

  • On the home tab of your “Profile” page, there is a bar that says "Update your Status." You can use this space to provide short updates to other community participants about yourself. You might update with a statement like, "I just joined my local Mended Hearts chapter!" or "Click here to read the article written about my story in my local newspaper." Other community participants can comment on these updates.


Logging In

  • What if I have forgotten my username or password?

    If you have forgotten your password, please click the “Forgot Password” link under the login page. If you are unable to retrieve your login information, please email our Resource Center.

Discussion Forum

  • What is a discussion forum?

    A discussion forum is a list of discussions in the community. You can start a discussion with others by asking a new question or responding to a previous discussion. 
  • How do I respond to a discussion?

  • To respond to an existing forum, click on the topic header you'd like to respond to. On the top right, there is a "New Discussion" button. Fill in the headline and post and then click "Post."


Friends

  • How do I "friend" other community participants?

    When you find another community participant you'd like to be friends with, place your mouse cursor over their profile picture. In the window that appears, click on the icon of a person with a plus sign to request that participant's friendship. Or, you can click to view their full profile and then click on the person icon in the left navigation bar of their profile. Once she or he accepts your friend request, they will appear in the "People" tab of your community profile. 
  • What happens after someone is my "friend" on the CardioSmart Community?

  • Once your friendship request has been accepted, the friend will appear in the "People" tab of your community profile. Their activity around CardioSmart and their status updates will appear in the "Recent Activity" tab of your community profile.


Rules of Engagement

  • What are the rules governing my participating on this site?

The American College of Cardiology’s CardioSmart online communities are governed by this set of standards that will apply to all community members and their posts: 

  1. Content submitted to the CardioSmart Community is not reviewed or checked by medical experts before it is posted. If you believe there is a problem with content you see in the Community, use the “Report Abuse” feature to notify the community administrators.
  2. You must be respectful and civil to other members, even if you disagree with them.
  3. You may not post subject lines or comments containing profanity, sexually graphic or offensive language, etc. Such posts will be deleted.
  4. We do not allow harassing, threatening, libelous, racist, abusive, hateful, violent or obscene language or behavior. Posts that discriminate or denigrate on the basis of race, national origin, ethnicity, age, sex, gender-preference, religion or disability will be removed.
  5. Participation in, suggesting or encouraging any illegal or unethical activity is cause for immediate deletion and may be reported to the appropriate authorities.
  6. You may not post any articles, news reports or other copyrighted material included in the posts without the prior permission of the relevant copyright owners. Providing a link to copyrighted material is acceptable.
  7. You may not flood or spam, post chain letters, pyramid schemes, junk mail or URLs for outside sites that violate any of these Guidelines.
  8. No commercial solicitation or advertising is allowed.
  9. Personal support for or opposition to political candidates and parties can be discussed, but political solicitation or advertising is not allowed.
  10. Do not post personal or any other information that you do not want seen by other members.
  11. Use discretion in following their advice.
  12. Anyone who you share your login information with can post content under your name. You are responsible for the security of your login information.  

We reserve the right to remove any material that does not (in our judgment) comply with these standards and to revoke posting privileges at our sole discretion and without warning or explanation. Our decisions are considered final.
