Description
Amlodipine is one of a newer generation of calcium channel blockers which have minimal activity in the heart. Rather, they promote the relaxation of blood vessels. They are extremely effective in controlling high blood pressure and are among the first-line agents in this area. They also are effective in controlling chest pain, or angina.

Common Adult Doses and Forms
Amlodipine (Norvasc): 2.5 mg to 10 mg once daily
Dosage Forms:
Amlodipine (Norvasc) (tablet): 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg
How should I take this medication?
Amlodipine can be taken with or without meals. Leg swelling is dose dependent (meaning higher doses cause more swelling), but can be severe.
